Here are my server specs, so you can get an idea of what kind of computer you run the server, of course, more is better so just keep in mind that there are factors that come into play when you are hosting dedicated themselves server. As it up / down speed, processor speed, RAM, hard disk space.
AMD Athlon 1.2ghz
512MB PC-133 RAM
Linksys 10/100 NIC card
60GB Western Digital hard disk
Ubuntu Server 9.04
First things first, log in as root (if not already ).
I
Next, scroll to "/ usr / local / games" directory and called HLDS. This directory will hold all the files to your server. After a couple you will have to "hl2" folder and "cstrike" folder. We will only deal with the cstrike folder to that.
cd / usr / local / games
mkdir HLDS
HLDS CD
Now you have to take hldsupdatetool.bin of steam. This is the main install files for steam.
storefront.steampowered.com / download / hldsupdatetool.bin
The bin file is downloaded we need to do the enforcement, so that we can install a vapor. To make an executable file the.bin
chmod + x hldsupdatetool.bin
then execute the bin file by issuing the following command:
. / Hldsupdatetool.bin
Take a waiver
To type
will now extract and steam readme.txt file in the directory. Execute the file so that steam can be updated it will take several minutes. (You may have to do it twice)
. / Vapors
Now we have to say what game we want to run. For how we choose the "Counter-Strike Source ".
. / Rolling command update-game "Counter-Strike Source"-dir.
Now you have the default Counter Strike Source server.
CD cstrike
/ maps / - where all the maps and waypoints are stored
/ mapcycle.txt - a list of cards that is
so now we have a base install that allows a little more fun and automated.
First, if you do not already installed, install the package "screen ".
apt-get update
apt-get install screen
screen will help you run your dedicated server, while configuring and testing settings. We will be back with the screen at the moment. For now, just install it.
Next we need to configure our server.cfg file. I made a general server.cfg files for download by anonymous users, etc. You can download it. Copy this file to your server and put it in "/ usr / local / games / HLDS / cstrike / cfg /" folder.
We are now ready to start Counter Strike Source server. Enter the following to get the server running.
the
. / Srcds_run-console-game cstrike + map de_dust + maxplayers 16-autoupdate
after the Ctrl-Ctrl-D (optionally to be separated from the screen)
Now run the CS client goto LAN and wait for it to appear on the list. Double-click on it to connect. Password = thisismypass (if you use my server.cfg file)
Now you have a vanilla Counter Strike Source server up and running. I would suggest if you open your server to the public for the installation or "Mani_Admin_Plugin" or "SourceMod" and will allow you to manage your server from the game and set up many more options and fun stuff for your server.
